Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient system, which can be traced back to the Chinese who have used it for healing for over 5000 years. A wall painting found in the tomb of an ancient Egyptian physician shows that Reflexology was used around 2300 BCE. The therapy as we know it today was developed in the Victorian era, and has between up-dated and refined by the Americans and British ever since then. Reflexology follows the same principles as Acupuncture, that energy travels through the body along pathways known as “Meridians” or “Zones”. Energy or “Chi” is the Bio-electrical system of the body. The Meridians and Zones relate to all the major organs of the body and are mirrored in the feet like a map. The Reflexology practitioner uses fingers and thumbs to apply pressure to reflex points on the feet to “unblock” these energy lines to effect a positive change within the whole body.
The hieroglyphics on the ancient wallpainting below say “This will not hurt you, but heal you”.

What Does Reflexology Do?
Reflexology is more than just a foot massage. Apart from being highly relaxing, it can help to improve blood and Lymph circulation, cleanse the body of toxins, balance the whole system, revitalises energy, induces a deep state of relaxation amongst many other things.

The effect of the Reflexology treatment is very subtle. It works in quite mysterious ways, and is therefore difficult to determine or measure. Reflexology is rarely a miracle cure, but people have frequently reported feeling happier, healthier, more relaxed and their ailments alleviated after very few treatments.

Is Reflexology Safe?
Because of this caution is advised for those suffering from certain medical complaints. A full and confidential medical history will be taken at your first appointment, and the practitioner will ensure that any treatment is designed especially for your needs. Reflexology helps the body to heal itself. Sometimes when our bodies are healing, we go through what is termed a “healing Crisis” this means that straight after your treatment you may feel drowsy, very thirsty and need to use the bathroom. This is a sign that the treatment is working; the body is flushing out toxins, and asking you to rest. In extreme cases, flu-like symptoms, headaches, diarrhoea or nightmares may be experienced. But this is rare and will only last 12-24 hours after the treatment, indicating that the treatment has helped the body to renew itself.

Reflexology is not a replacement for traditional medicine; we work in unison with your G.P. if required. A formal diagnosis is not possible, but the Reflexologist may pick up areas which need attention within the body. If we feel you need further advice or allopathic medical attention, we will refer you to your doctor. Helping you back to Wellness With Reflexology.
